The Bixio Family cultivates the vines since the 19th century, when Alfonso, Nino Bixio’s son, was born in Soave. Since then, Bixio's Company has grown and evolved, extending its production from the Soave Doc to other production areas. In 2016 they extend their estates in Molise Region too. Il Matese is our special selection of varietal grapes from Molise to enjoy everyday, pleasant and Sincere in which the original grape is main character.

Aglianico is an ancient red grape variety originating from Greece. It owes its name to the term Elleanico (which comes from Greece), which underwent pronunciation variations during the Aragonese rule, eventually leading to its current appellation. Its cradle is undoubtedly the area of Vulture, in Basilicata, in the province of Potenza. Mount Vulture (1326 meters above sea level) is an ancient inactive volcano, and on its slopes, Aglianico has found a perfect pedoclimatic condition. Aglianico del Vulture is a grape variety with small clusters, with intensely blue-black berries, which prefers volcanic soils of high and medium hills. It also fears intense heat and autumn frosts. The former is mitigated by the altitude of the vineyards, while the latter are fortunately rare in its cultivation area.

Viticultural details: Grapes are produced from hillside vineyards, whose lands are at an altitude of no more than 500 meters s.l.m. The Molise region is characterized by mild nature, the soils consist of clays and limestone rocks and, in the floodplain along the coast, from sandy soil. Age of the vines 15- 25 years.

Vinification and maturation:Soft pressing of the grapes followed by 15 days maceration. Alcoholic fermentation at a supervised temperature with selected yeasts. Further steel refinement.

Tasting notes: Colour: deep purple. Nose: pleasantly intense, fruity and typical .
Flavour: full body, pleasant and well balanced.

Serving suggestions: Ideal with rich and tasty dishes, game, red meat and spicy food. Enjoy as an appetizer or with fish, white meats, thick soups and pasta.

Serve at: 18-20°C. (64-68°F.)
