Lugana wine is produced in the lower Garda area, on a particular clayey soil that is a residue of the last glaciations, which formed the base of what was once the glacier that created Lake Garda. This part of the Garda region is also famous for its Bronze Age remains, with visible artifacts ranging from ancient to modern bronze. It was a significant area during the Roman period as it served as a natural passage between the east and the west, with Roman remains scattered throughout the area. During the period of the Signorie, the Scaliger lordship stood out, leaving important remains in Sirmione (the castle) and Peschiera del Garda (remains of the castle and the fortified fortress on Roman foundations). The Venetian period (1440-1797) left its mark, with fortified cities like Peschiera del Garda and others. The area then went through a period of French rule and later became part of the Habsburg Kingdom until around 1860. Finally, after the Second War of Independence, the area definitively became part of the Kingdom of Italy.
On the shores of Lake Garda, between Sirmione and San Benedetto di Lugana, we cultivate the Turbiana variety, which produces this lively, crisp wine with an inimitable goût de terroir.
