The term "Primitivo" derives from the Latin word "primativus," meaning "the first to be harvested." This name is due to the fact that the Primitivo grape variety is known to be one of the first to reach maturity and be harvested during the harvest season.

The origins of Primitivo wine date back to ancient times when the Greeks colonized Puglia around the 8th century BC. It was the Greeks who introduced vine cultivation and wine production to the region. Over the centuries, viticulture further developed thanks to Roman influence and subsequent Byzantine and Norman dominations.

 

The Primitivo wine is an indigenous grape variety of southern Italy, particularly widespread in the region of Puglia. The area of San Severo, located in the province of Foggia, is one of the most important production areas for Primitivo.

COMBINATIO: It can be combined with game, very tasty cheeses and first courses with red sauce. It is the ideai accompaniment to typical dishes of Apulian cuisine, such as “orecchiette” and “cavatelli”, enriched by vegetables such as tumip tops.
